Christine is a comic strip that Sara Bell Welles created when she was just eight-years-old. Over the years, Ms. Welles had created hundreds of strips for, Christine. Ms. Welles got Christine, the doll, from a friend of her mom’s. At the time, this friend was creating dolls from pictures of children. Originally, Christine was supposed to be Sara herself. Since Ms. Welles’ art was inspired by the cartoons, animation, and comic-strips of her time, it wasn’t long before Christine the comic strip was born! Christine’s comic strip features ten key characters: Christine, Sara, Steven, Rose, Mike, Isaac, Irene, Betty, Muffin, & Midnight.

Christine is a nine-month-old baby who uses crawling and traveling to get around. Since she can’t talk yet, only her thoughts are shown. Christine has a bad temper, a wild imagination, and a semi-bullying mentality. In other words, it’s her way or the highway. Christine will pretend to be an adult, a monster, a famous character or person, to walk, dance, drive, race cars, wrestle, and more. She has her favorite pretend characters. They are Super Baby, Detective Christine, and Punk Christine.

     Sara is six-months-old. She crawls, takes a pacifier, and drinks out of a bottle. Christine often gets jealous of the attention her baby, sister gets; causing a lot of sibling rivalry. Just to be annoying, Sara invents anti-heroes, law officers, and villains to foil Christine’s imaginary heroes. Sara is easier going then, Christine.  She will allow others to pick the games they play and will hardly ever lose her temper.

      Steven is Christine and Sara’s friend and neighbor. Christine dubbed him as her best friend, as soon as; she laid eyes on him. Steven is eight-months-old, is very smart, and doesn’t believe in anything he doesn’t see. Christine gets frustrated when he ruins things by explaining the impossibilities of her imaginary, play. Steven is closer to Sara than he is to Christine. That’s because she will play sports, and other games, that Christine refuses to play. Also, because she agrees with him; Christine is weird!

     Rose and Mike are Christine and Sara’s parents. Mike is in the Navy, so he’s rarely seen. When he’s seen or mentioned, it’s by phone, video chat, or videos. Since Rose is such a young, and new mom, she often makes many mistakes. Rose and all the adults are viewed from the waists down or with blurry/ shaded faces because this is Christine’s world.

Betty is Rose’s mom and Christine and Sara’s grandma. She’s the only who can hear the children’s thoughts understand their babbles and can communicate with them.

       Isaac and Irene are Steven’s parents. Since they work a lot, they have hired Rose to watch him. Now, since he’s over Christine’s house so often, he has become an honorary member of the family.

      Muffin is really Christine’s dog, but everyone helps to take care of him. Everyone loves Muffin, especially Christine. That’s because he allows her to dress him up in costumes and wigs. Christine really loves to dress him up as her sidekicks. When she’s Super Baby, he’s Long Dog. When she’s Punk Christine, he’s Spike. Muffin is always happy; hardly ever letting anything making him sad, mad, or scared. He’s a little naive, so he is always fallen for                       Midnight’s pranks and jokes. The children are not fond of the family’s cat, Midnight. Not only is he always telling bad jokes, pulling pranks, and trying to scare them; but none of the adults catch him doing it. To them, he’s just an innocent, and sweet cat whom they love to pet.
